FAQ

Here are some of the answers to the questions PANL gets most often. If your question isn’t answered here, reach out to our board and we’ll be happy to help answer your questions.
What is a Paramedic?

Paramedics are licensed healthcare professionals capable of assessing the needs of patients and providing medical treatment in emergent and non-emergent situations. Paramedics provide care to patients in out-of-hospital, inter-hospital and community settings.

Paramedicine is a rewarding and demanding career, which requires both in-class and hands-on learning. In Newfoundland and Labrador, the College of the North Atlantic offers a 68-week diploma in Primary Care Paramedicine. This program prepares potential paramedics to provide pre-hospital care in accordance with national standards for paramedics.

Not only does PANL offer many benefits to its members, including mental health supports, personal and professional insurance access, and even retail discounts, our organization also works in concert with national associations to further the needs of paramedics across the country.

The PANL is not intended to mimic, replicate or function as a union. This association is intended for the sole purpose of representing Emergency Medical professionals. The PANL is committed to following the direction of its members. In that regard we encourage all types of suggestions and feedback. It is important that we focus our energies towards forwarding our core mandates and living up to our mission statement.
